With growing interest, the Osim Singapore International Triathlon could be held at a bigger venue in future.

Among the venues being considered is the Marina Barrage.

This year's event at the East Coast drew 3,742 participants.

Held over the weekend, the elite races were the highlight as always. It saw more competing in the Olympic distance and kids' race categories.

The organisers said the scenic East Coast Park is reaching its limits. And they are working closely with the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources to secure the Marina Barrage as a future site.

But no timeline has been fixed.

Up to 5,000 participants would be able to compete at the Marina Barrage and organisers said it could also pave the way for Singapore to host one leg of the International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Cup.

"In terms of elite participation this year, you also see a big jump compared to last year - we have close to 17 countries taking part in this year elite race. And we have almost close to 65 elites taking part in the elite circuit under ITU sanctions," said Mark Tay, President of the Triathlon Association of Singapore.

And on Sunday's elite races, Japan's Sato Harunobu was top with his time of 1 hour 51 minutes and 59 seconds.

Namibia's Louw Abrahm was second, and in third place was Australian Bryce McMaster.

The Australians ruled the women's category, with Lisa Marangon beating her compatriots to cross the finishing line with her 2 hours 7 minutes timing.

Two minutes behind was Australian Courtney Gilfillan, and Chloe Turner also from Down Under was in third place.
