Android fans should be very happy today: for one day only, every model of Google’s Nexus S is free at Best Buy stores.
T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T customers can get the phone as a new phone or upgrade purchase with a two-year activation at Best Buy stores and BestBuy.com today.
A pure Android phone, the Nexus S runs Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and, because it’s made by Google, always gets the latest updates from Google’s mobile team first.
The slim phone has other charms as well, including a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, 16GB of internal memory, a gorgeous (and curvy) 4-inch screen, dual cameras and an NFC chip.
The phone is normally $529.99 on AT&T and T-Mobile, and the 4G version on Sprint normally costs $699.99.
According to Best Buy’s Web site, early termination fees may apply if you’re looking to upgrade your phone. Eager buyers should also remember that the Nexus S requires a data plan.
The Nexus S is a great phone, and probably the one that I’d recommend most highly to Android enthusiasts. Staying at the edge of innovation is awesome, but you do occasionally lose some functionality. Consumers should also know that that the Nexus S has no SD card slot, so you’re out of luck if you want to expand your storage.
Still, if you’ve been on the fence about picking up this phone, it’s a deal that’s hard to pass up.
